  1. Homage to John Coltrane

Reedman Dave Liebman, former confederate of Miles Davis and founder of his own groups Lookout Farm and Quest, offers a timely tribute to the man he calls "the most decisive influence in my artistic life"-John Coltrane, who passed away 20 years ago. Liebman, playing soprano sax throughout, performs Coltrane's music in a different quintet on each side; joining him on the front line in both configurations is oboe player Caris Visentin. Pianist Jim McNeely, drummer Adam Nussbaum and contabassist Eddie Gomez, side one's rhythm team, back the reedmen on Coltrane's "Love," "Crescent" and "Untitled Original," which is especially recommended.
