ReplyDeleteThe Success of the group Weather Report has brought the music of Miroslav Vitous, Joe Zawinul & Wayne Shorter to a new and larger audience. Like Joe Zawinul's "Zawinul" (Atlantic SD 1579), this album is a significant Precursor to the music of Weather Report.
Joined by some of the most influential and original players in contemporary music, Miroslav presents six of his own pieces as well as a unique treatment of Eddie Harris' jazz classic 'Freedom Jazz Dance'. Being a virtuoso of the bass, Miroslav constructs and developes the music around his instrument. But he uses it as the local point with grace and taste, never with burdensome overindulgence.
These performances are neither traditionally rigid nor rambling in thoughtless free playing. The overriding emphasis in this music is it's aesthetic result, accomplished by the empathetic ineraction of highly creative and proficient musicians. The Music is both adventurous and beautiful thereby providing a totally satisfying and musical experience.
