  1. Backed by a trombone/keyboards/electric bass/drums quartet, Rollins' playing has rarely sounded so assured and dignified as on this 1987 date. At a point when he'd long been recognized as the world's greatest living tenor saxophonist, Rollins essayed a selection of excellent originals (the CD includes a second alternate take of Rollins' "Allison") with a couple of his beloved standards, "Dancing in the Dark" and "I'll String Along With You," and, perhaps for commerce's sake, a faithful cover of Quincy Jones and James Ingram's massive hit "Just Once" (written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil). The Caribbean-flavored "Duke of Iron" is perhaps the highlight, but the entire album is unfailingly polite and tasteful.
