The Peruvian Wilfredo Stephenson traveled to Sweden in 1968, after having been in New York for 5 years, initially out of curiosity and partly to study international economics at the U of Stockholm. After completing his studies he decided to become a musician since the attraction of playing Latin music was stronger than work as an economist.
After playing the piano and guitar, he concentrated on percussion, bass and voices have been an invaluable catalyst for Latin music in the perspective of Swedish music. You can not underestimate its importance as a musician, band director and programmer of the sauce.
After playing with the big Sabu Martinez (now deceased and who dedicated his second album "Cursed primitve '/ Friend 1985) and many others, Wilfredo Hot Salsa formed in 1977-78. Their repertoire is inspired by Santana in the early years (The first album Hot Salsa "/ Montezuma 1979) and gradually changed when the band became convinced of the importance of exposing the roots of salsa music. Since then Hot Salsa is considered one of the best salsa bands in northern Europe, as a result have played in festivals in Scandinavia with Machito, Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaria, project opus 13, Son 14, Ruben Blades, and so on.
The concept of "Salsa Meetz Jazz" comes from Village Gate in NY and in 1984 transplanted Wilfredo Stephenson successful merger and the Stockholm Jazz Club Fasching, to the delight of both: the public and musicians.
On this album, Hot Sauce is invited to some of the jazz soloist who played with the band at Fasching with very good results (full of energy and joy) the first note to the end.
One of the great personalities of the Swedish Jazz, Christer Boustedt begins with a new version of "A Nigtht in Tunisia" by Dizzy Gillespie, with his alto sax in one fantastic, and exhibits his typical candor in a complete melodic combination.
Track 2 "New Blood" was written by one of the best pianists Swedish Torbjorn Langborn.
"Tp's Special" is performed by Tito Puente (Latin Jazz godfather) involved as a member of the band and solo.
"I Believe In Yesterday" written and sung (voice and percussion) by Wilfredo.
He then goes on a rumba John Coltrane "Giant Steps", where it looks (on tenor sax solo) Uruguay Héctor Bingert.
Follow a traditional sauce "with my pace," arranged by Torbjorn Langborn & Toots Thielemans; eye Limeños here, especially the district of Jesus Maria, Wilfredo recalls the corner and insurance friends.
The album ends with Duke Ellington classic "Caravan" played by Orjan Fahlstron and trumpeter Ulf Adak.
