Jean-Pierre Drouet - Percusionista (MPEG)

Biography by Stewart Mason

French-born avant-garde percussionist and composer Jean-Pierre Drouet is a familiar figure in modern European experimental music, having worked with storied figures like Luciano Berio and Karlheinz Stockhausen, as well as creating his own bizarre multi-media extravaganzas. Born in Paris in 1935, Drouet originally studied piano until an accident forced him to switch to percussion while still a student. Upon graduating, Drouet fell into friendship with Italian composer Luciano Berio and his vocalist wife Cathy Berberian; the three explored the United States together in the 1950s, where Drouet developed an interest in jazz and improvised music that would remain with him through the rest of his career. Besides his solo improvisations and work with collaborators ranging from the British jazz-rock guitarists John McLaughlin and Fred Frith to the avant-garde French saxophonist Louis Sclavis, Drouet has also written extensively for the theater, the ballet, and the concert stage. His album releases include Solo, En Public a Banlieues Bleues, Improvisations, Les Variations d'Ulysse, and Parcours.

Sky at Westminster Abbey (1982) XVID

On 24th February 1981, the band performed the only concert ever to be staged at Westminster Abbey. Billed as a commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of human rights organisation Amnesty International, it was also the launch of Sky 3. Most of the pieces performed were, therefore, from that album.

It was recorded by the BBC for TV transmission, but was also released for sale on VHS video and Laserdisc. Curiously for a video of music, the video was released with mono sound! However, the Laserdisc features a stereo soundtrack. It was never a great commercial success and after a short shelf-life was deleted from the BBC catalogue. It's rarer than gold-dust and it's extremely unlikely that you'll ever find the video in any shop, although the Laserdisc turns up in specialist shops every now and again.

As a live concert, it was very well presented. The recording, on the other hand, looks like it was edited by amateurs rather than one of the world's foremost broadcasting institutions. Running order of the video.

Johnny Hodges brillante en " Black Butterfly " y " Things Ain't What They Used to Be " (él murió justamente unos pocos meses más tarde, en el 11 de mayo, 1970).

Hermeto Pascoal - Ao vivo Montreux Jazz Festival(1979)DVD

Hermeto Pascoal / Ao vivo Montreux Jazz Festival(1979)DVD
Nombre Real: Hermeto Pascoal
